Jane combined Voice & Piano at RAM gaining 1st Class Hons GRSM; Prof & Advanced (Post-grad Opera) Certs in Voice; LRAM & Principal’s Prize ‘ The Mary Burgess Award’. Awarded scholarship to GSMD Opera Course.
Jane’s 25 yr performing career combined Opera (incl.Bayreuth, Opera Factory, Opera de Monte – Carlo, Belgian National Opera) & Concert work throughout UK & abroad (incl. Wigmore Hall & Purcell Room recitals) & recordings for BBC & Classic FM. Roles incl. Countess, Violetta, Marenka, Magda, Fiordiligi, Hanna Glawari, Dido, Gianetta, Norina, Cherubino, Blumenmadchen, Elsie Maynard, Patience, Treemonisha, Anna ( King & I).
She began her long teaching career in 1976 & was Professor of Singing at GSMD (13 yrs), RAM (Junior/ Senior – 21 yrs) & RWCMD (2 yrs); ran Vocal Dept at Chetham’s School of Music ( 7 yrs) & Senior Vocal Coach for NYCGB (12 yrs). Jane specialises in training professional singers in the classical music/ opera field & nurtures talented young singers preparing for the profession.
Recent/current students sing for major companies incl ENO, ROH, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Norwegian Nat Opera, ETO, Glyndebourne, Diva & Pavilion Opera, Garsington, Grange Park, Buxton, BYO, Holland Park. Many have been Finalists/ Prize-winners in Kathleen Ferrier, Wigmore Hall & R O L competitions, are/ have been members of BBC Singers, Genesis Sixteen, Stile Antico, Swingles, G4 , Blake, recitalists on BBC Rad 3 & Classic FM, on concert platform incl. solo appearances at Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, South Bank, RAH, Barbican, Bridgewater & with leading orchs (incl RPO, BBC Symph & Concert Orchs, Philharmonia & Northern Sinfonia). Two students are recent BBC New Gen Artists.
In 1998 Jane was Key-note Speaker at the International Choral Convention in Melbourne & gave masterclasses at Monash University, VCA & Melba Conservatorium. She worked for many years as singing teacher for Norwegian National Opera, Oslo. She also works in France, Spain & Jersey.
